A charming summer cottage got an updated and fresh look when we painted stylist, writer, and podcast host Kirsikka Simberg’s beautiful summer place in the summer of 2022. Kirsikka writes about her experience:
“This summer the cottage was painted
We have a few major construction and renovation dreams for the summer cottage. Painting the house had been on this list for a long time, and since painting is also really important for the condition of the house, it was the first on the list to be completed.
I was a bit late with the painting assignment and only started looking for painters in late spring, fearing we’d never find someone who could get the job done in time. What made the project tricky was also that we wanted to spend as much time as possible at the cottage during the summer, which meant the project couldn’t drag on too long.
I received a quote from Väriset for the work and was pleasantly surprised that the job could be done within our desired timeframe.
Everything went according to schedule, the painters were super skilled and friendly, the whole team was flexible and accommodated our wishes
This post is a big thank you and positive review, because I was so satisfied that we found such nice and good workers. Everything went according to schedule, the painters—two of them came on site so the work could be done quickly—were super skilled and friendly, the whole team was flexible and accommodated our wishes, and the work was ultimately completed in one week. That was wonderful, because a long vacation at the cottage was important to us and depended on this project going smoothly.
Project in a nutshell
Our house is about 80 square meters, on two floors. The old paint was in poor condition, peeling and really dirty in places. The house was washed with mold killer and the peeling paint was scraped off.
A Virtanen representative came to look at the house and estimated everything we needed, from paint consumption to project duration.
The paint used was Virtanen’s Aimo paint, which is an oil-based and domestic product. Aimo is well suited to the challenging weather conditions of the archipelago, was a familiar product to the Väriset team, and I’ve heard a lot of praise about its durability and other properties.
The paint shade didn’t change much, but the house was still primed. The paint consumption was more than estimated, as the house’s dried and rough boards absorbed paint like a sponge. However, the painters quickly noticed the change in consumption and managed to get more paint to supplement the amount that had been estimated at the paint store based on the size of the house.
Staying on schedule can be affected by weather, as work can’t be done in pouring rain. This is worth considering when planning the project.
If it took two experienced painters a week to do the work, it would have taken us at least double that time. Now we got to spend that time together as a family and the result turned out perfect.
If anyone is considering painting their house, I warmly recommend Väriset for the job. (And note, I don’t have to, even though I got a discount!) The company has solid experience in painting work, the price, required time, and materials were estimated in advance and all estimates were met. Painting a house is relatively expensive, so it was really nice to be able to trust the workers.
Additionally, it was wonderful that the painters were so sensible and pleasant. That’s a really nice thing when, in this kind of work, the workers are moving around in your own home/summer cottage.
Based on my comparisons, I can also confirm that the price was in line with other contractors.
We had originally considered painting the house ourselves, and I have to admit I’m incredibly happy we didn’t have to do it. If it took two experienced painters a week to do the work, it would have taken us at least double that time. Now we got to spend that time together as a family and the result turned out perfect.”
