Succeed in exterior painting – a professional’s 3 tips for exterior painting tools

A successful exterior painting project requires good tools in addition to properly selected, high-quality paint. With them, the work is easier and the paint finish is better. We present three tips that are fundamental principles in our painting work.
1. A good brush
The brush is the first tool that comes to mind when thinking about painting. It is perhaps the painter’s most important tool: a good brush picks up just the right amount of paint when dipped in the bucket, releases paint evenly onto the surface, and doesn’t shed bristles.
A familiar tool for Väriset’s painters year after year has been Sokeva’s Ergo brush, whose mixed bristles include natural bristles.
“What’s good about the Ergo is the rotating handle and it’s easy to combine into a double brush. The Ergo handle can be reused and we use it not only for painting exterior walls but also on tile roofs,” says Väriset’s foreman Eemeli Niemelä.
At Väriset, we use Ergo brushes in the thousands during the painting season, so it’s important that the brush is high quality.
2. Use an extension pole
An extension pole that attaches to the brush, ranging from one to two meters long, is a handy accessory. Especially when painting high walls and hard-to-reach places, the extension pole is an invaluable help.
“Speeds up work, reduces hand strain and repetitive strain injuries,” Eemeli Niemelä summarizes.
Using an extension pole improves reach, allowing you to easily access high spots, such as the roofline and upper parts of the house, without the need to constantly move ladders. This increases safety and speeds up work. Additionally, the extension pole reduces strain on the arms, shoulders, and back, as you can maintain a more ergonomic posture while working.
Choose an extension pole that is long enough to reach the area to be painted, but also short enough to be easy to handle and store.
By using an extension pole, you can significantly improve work efficiency and comfort. When you combine it with a high-quality brush, you achieve an even and professional result.

By using Sokeva’s products, you not only do a good job but also do social good. Sokeva is owned by the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired. Sokeva manufactures and imports tools and materials for painting, renovation, and surface cleaning. Every product purchased supports the visually impaired and their employment.
At Väriset, we have years of collaboration with Sokeva behind us.
“The collaboration has been long and effortless. The products have consistent and reliable quality,” says Väriset’s foreman Eemeli Niemelä.
In addition to social good, it’s a pleasure to use Sokeva’s products because of their high quality.
A good brush will serve through multiple painting projects, as long as you take care of it. Cleaning the brush immediately after use prevents paint from drying in the bristles and extends its lifespan.
For example, Sokeva’s brushes are designed to be durable and easy to maintain, so cleaning them is effortless.

Wash the brush thoroughly with water or paint thinner, depending on the paint used, and store in a dry place for the next use.
Scrape and wipe off excess paint from the brush as thoroughly as possible. Clean the brush with the appropriate solvent for the type of paint used in a separate container. Clean the bristle section thoroughly all the way to the roots. Wash and rinse well with clean water or solvent. Hang the brush to dry from the hole in the handle, so the bristle section doesn’t bend while drying.
If you’ve forgotten to clean the brush, dried paint can be removed with BioComb Brush Cleaner. Soak the brush in the product diluted with water until the paint is soft again. Then clean according to the instructions above.
