Painting a Wooden House Block in Tampere – “Resources, Attitude, Service-Mindedness”

The idyll known as Pihlajapiha in Tampere’s Tammela district was in need of exterior painting worthy of its heritage. Seven wooden houses built in the 1920s were restored to their former glory in the summer of 2025, when Väriset painted the building facades.
Tampere rental housing renovation project manager Sami Uusiniemi says the wooden houses at Kalevan puistotie 9 were badly in need of painting. If the painting had been postponed, a larger exterior cladding renovation would have been at risk.
“The paint surface was already quite poor on several houses. Now it had to be saved—the next option would have been replacing the wooden facades.”
Because the exterior painting was done now, the wooden parts didn’t need extensive replacement—replacing damaged wooden sections was enough.
Expertise Convinced
The project started with a competitive bidding process for painting companies. Väriset was selected to carry out the large project involving seven wooden houses.

Work began in June 2025. The houses were washed and the poor paint surface was scraped off. After priming, a new paint surface was applied to the houses.

The houses are ready for their celebration next year.
“Residents are organizing a 100th anniversary celebration next year, so the painting came at a timely moment.”
