“Now I’m Even a Little Prouder of the House” – Väriset Painted Finland’s Most Beautiful Home
14.07.2026
The winner of the Finland’s Most Beautiful Home competition is home to choreographer and dance teacher Jari Saarelainen. When the facade of the century-old wooden villa located in Espoo began to look faded, Saarelainen called in Väriset.
Up Close, the Need for Painting Was Obvious
An old wooden house’s facade may still look good from a distance, even when the paint surface has reached the end of its life.
“The need for painting became apparent when you looked at the house a bit more closely. You can definitely tell,” Saarelainen says.
The choice of painting company was influenced by recommendations and the impression of their work.
“Väriset was called in because I had heard a lot of good things about them, and their work looked fresh and crisp, just as I hoped the end result would be.”
A Clear Process Made a Foreman Unnecessary
At the start of the project, Saarelainen was walked through how the work would progress and why.
“When the painters arrived on site, everything was somehow incredibly clear. They explained to me how this should be done and how they would do it, and that’s exactly what happened.”
Self-directed quality control quickly proved unnecessary.
“I tried to act as a foreman and observe the painters, but I quickly realized I was unnecessary. Everything looked so structured, precise, and neat that I thought I’d just go enjoy the summer and wait for the finished result.”
Careful Preparation and Joint Final Inspection
When painting an old wooden house, the end result is largely determined before the first coat of paint is even applied.
“I was really impressed that the protection was done carefully, which was an important matter to me. A lot of time was also spent on preparation work: old paint was removed, and only after the preparation was done carefully did they begin the actual painting.”
At the end of the project, the workmanship was reviewed together.
“Perhaps the most important thing was that the final inspection is done together and very carefully. Nothing gets past these fingers without being ‘okayed’.”
“I’d Be Covered in Paint and It Would Already Be Autumn”
According to Saarelainen, professional workmanship is evident not only in the surface but also in the calendar.
“This project went so quickly that suddenly everything was finished. If I had undertaken this myself, I’d be covered in paint and it would already be autumn. But I’m not covered in paint—I’m in the greenhouse enjoying a summer day.”
The owner is more than satisfied with the end result.
“I’ve always been really proud of our house, and now when I come into the yard, I’m even a little bit prouder, because it’s so stylish and beautiful. Based on this experience, I can fully recommend Väriset to come and paint the world more beautiful.”
